The Long Run - 32km
Not great, but not a disaster either. It was raining fairly heavily when I left home at 0-Dark-30. My shoes were soaked and heavy from the beginning. I'm sure this slowed me down considerably over the course of the run. They were like lead weights! The rain did abate however.
Took two litres of electrolyye drink along in the hydration pack and four gels. Drank water every 5km and took a gel every 45mins. Socks were soaked and very bloody when I took them off. An older pair of not-so-soft socks tore my feet up a little. There's a lesson there - invest in good socks!
Didn't feel as strong at the end of this run as I did last week. The target pace was 5:41min/km. I averaged 5:58min/km, although I was averaging 5:48 until about the 28km mark.
The Other Long Run - 24km
This was the run I was supposed to do this coming weekend, but because I’m running in the
City2Surf , I brought it forward.
I like running at night, but I generally don't like doing long runs at night - I've found I don't perform as well as when I go running at dawn, which is strange when you think about it, because I should have a better nutrition/hydration base in the evening than in the morning.
I took two litres of water in the hudration pack, two gels (one at 45 mins in and one at 90 mins in) and for this first time also used some endurolytes (two tabs at the one and two hour marks).
I felt pretty good for most of the way, but I experienced some cramping in my calves which I wouldn't normally on a run of under 25kms. I put that down to doing this long run within only a couple of days of the 32km long run on the weekend.
The Joy Run - 8km
Total for the week: 64km (record week!)
Total for the year: 1151km
