So just like that I have another half marathon on my schedule to train for and this one I am super pumped about. On January 8th me and the wifey will be going to Orlando to run with Mickey, Goofy, Donald and all the other crazy characters at the Disney Half Marathon. My sister has run this race once as well as the marathon- in fact she is training for the full again this year and is one of the reasons we are heading down.
I have been out of training mode since September and my Philadelphia half marathon when I bombed; it is nice to be back to a schedule again, I just operate better overall when I am training. So far this week I have been doing some maintenance runs as well as a few tempo and speed workouts. Below is the schedule I created for Catherine and myself, we kick off the long runs this weekend with a 7 miler.
I have heard great things about the Disney marathon weekend; awesome logistics, great medals, fantastic scenery and a fast course. Much respect for my sister who is tackling her 2nd marathon at Disney and I will be excited to be there to cheer her on. As for my goals, being the first race on the 2011 calendar I would like to get there healthy and with a strong foundation for my fitness.
My family would take vacations to Disney almost every year when we were kids, I must have been there 15+ times in my life. It will be cool to run through the parks as well as going to visit the parks after the race and see it from the perspective as an adult. It should be an awesome weekend and the perfect way to start out the 2011 running season.
If you are training for a winter or early 2011 half marathon, below is the schedule I have created, it might give you some inspiration or new ideas.
Have you selected an early 2011 race? Have you run a Disney race, what was it like? Does winter training get you down?
