We’ve all had the experience of running to catch a train, but in New Zealand they made a race out of it .
About 300 runners in New Zealand challenged the vintage Kingston Flyer in a 12k “Race the Train” run. The race route paralleled the train tracks from Fairlight to Kingston so participants could gauge their speed against the train.
Fortunately, the Flyer is old and slow (as trains go) and it finished the route in about an hour. That’s about an 8 minute per mile pace, within reach for quite a few in the field.
