So with two weeks to go until my marathon I know how important it is to keep any extra pounds at bay. This is always tough when you start to taper--fewer calories burned can mean weight gain. My challenge is made tougher by the timing of my marathon.
Between now and then I have to face Halloween, my daughter's birthday, my birthday, and a trip to visit relatives. Now for those of you with kids, you know that their birthdays are never just one day affairs. We have the party with her friends, followed by the actual birthday dinner/cake here at home, followed by a visit to both grandparents' houses. And did I mention that I really, really love cake?
I'm going to do my best to keep it all at arm's length, but it won't be easy. Just one Butterfinger in the kids' Halloween containers and I'm probably a goner. Once I get started, it's tough to stop. My strategy will be to keep a mental picture of myself crossing the line at my goal time front and center to ward off the cravings. Wish me luck.
