Thursday. My long weekend started with a great run Thursday night in Peter's Canyon. An area that came dangerously close to being burnt down in the recent Orange County wildfire (still burning but well contained finally). I've been running with the Nike Run Club on Thursday nights at the store where I used to work part time. However, Gretchen was in town for the weekend and I was leaving Friday so I figured I'd schedule a Thursday night trail run with her. I put it on our OCTR calendar and for a while only a couple people were signed up. When I showed up at Peter's it quickly became a huge turnout! We had two brand new member prospects join us + Gretchen + 6 regular members for a total of 9. That's a pretty good sized group for a weekend run so it was great! I felt pretty rough on the early hills but ended up having a good 6.25 mile run. I think I can say that everyone else enjoyed themselves too and it was great to run with Gretchen! I wasn't with her most of the run but we did run the last 1.5 miles together down the final stretch as the sunlight was quickly fading away. It was pretty much dark when we finished. After dinner I met up with N for dinner at Opah in Irvine. We had a great time hanging out together and it's always good to make new friends! She gave me her friend A's number and said I should call. I figured. What the heck. What can it hurt?
Friday Abbie and I drove up to San Francisco for the Nike Women's Marathon weekend. I called A before I met up with Abbie and left a VM. On the drive up to San Fran, A called, and we chatted for a bit. It was a very nice conversation. We had only met briefly the previous weekend so didn't really talk much. Other than that the drive was not too eventful. Funny thing.. when we checked into the hotel in San Fran a guy was talking to Abbie about how she was running the race. He asked if her "partner" (referring to me) was also running or here for support. Funny stuff! Apparently he was not listening when a minute earlier she had asked if they had a room with two beds instead of one (it was supposed to be her and her boyfriend originally).
We had a fairly early night to prepare us for our eventful day on Saturday!
