Three Things Thursday: CrossFit, Food, and More Food

1) I went back to CrossFit last night and had a blast again. It’s still so incredibly hard but I like the coaches a lot and I liked the other people who were there.  I’m thinking I’m going to sign up for Foundations in the second half of February (since the first half is really busy with work), which meets really early in the morning for 2 weeks.  If you’re in the area and want to give it a try with me, let me know! :)

2) I’ve been doing really well with my food goals for this month .  Not only have we managed to keep cookies out of the house, I have been totally avoiding sweets all month – with the exception of this weekend, when I ate some homemade donuts when we went out to brunch. We went to Mad Fox Brewing Company in Falls Church, which was AMAZING and I’m going to review it later, and I saw the donuts on the menu and just wanted them.  So I ordered my main course a salmon omelet with caramelized onions and goat cheese,  and we got the donuts on the side.

Funny enough, after 3 weeks of no sweets at all, I didn’t devour them. I ate a little bit of all 3 and took the rest home to finish up over the weekend (which I totally did. YUM!).  The rest of my sweets craving, which has been torture has finally subsided.  I would have thought it would be the opposite – having the donuts would make the craving worse.  I really like Linz’ post today on moderation vs. deprivation  and think she might be onto something. A little bit of indulgence can probably keep my cravings in check.

We’re still at 100% on no fast food and I’ve done really well with bringing my breakfast 4 days a week.  I am looking forward to lifting the french fries ban next week though.

3) Yesterday I wore my Polar all day and seriously learned so much. Not to make myself sound dumb, but in the interest of full honesty, I’ve never really thought of how many calories I burnt just sitting around and how many I burn commuting and walking my dog. It’s so many more than I thought and it’s opened my eyes to my current eating habits and why I feel hungry so much. Anyway, I have a big post about it coming up early next week that breaks down how to calculate your basal metabolic rate and using the Harris Benedict formula to figure out calorie needs.  I’m really excited about it.
