This morning I went for a run with Kristen in Aliso Woods.  It was also another chance to try out my new watch.  We didn't meet for our run until 9:30AM since Kristen wanted to sleep in more :)

She's not too used to hills so I try to stay away from anything with too many hills.  Though I am getting her broken in on hills soon!  Anyway, Aliso does  have a good steady incline and after our first half mile to a mile it was uphill gradually until our turn around at about  mile 3.5.  According to my Suunto this gain was about 215 feet.  Nothing major but it does add up.  Another factor was the heat.  Since we had started later the sun was starting to bake us.  It was 80 degrees so noting crazy but another pieces of the "puzzle".  Also, Kristen hadn't run in a week and I am still getting over my cold.

All this added up to a difficult run for both of us.  We labored a bit and took walk breaks at 2.5, 3, 4 and 5.  My average heart rate was 154 and according to the "training effect" I was in zone 5 (the over-reaching zone) from about mile 2.75 to mile 5 which means I was training hard.  Our pace was only 11-12 minutes per mile so the training hard part of this tells me it's probably due to my cold.    That's alright.  Despite the difficulty in this run it was good and it was a beautiful morning to be out for a run in a beautiful location!

I am looking forward to Saturday's run and I hope I'm closer to 100% by then.  There is a group of 5-6 of us that will be running 23ish miles in the mountains and covering a portion of the Twin Peaks Ultra course.

Umm.. tonight I saw Saw III in tribute to the season with Kayla.  I think I'll be sitting at home on Halloween and not doing anything too exciting.  Tomorrow my credit and everything is being run for my potential mortgage on this house.  Yikes!

And randomly... why is my cough still bad in the morning and bad before I go to bed.  But completely gone while I run and barely there during the day?  I don't get it.  Hmph.

Happy Running,
Jessica
