The Upcoming Journey - My 50th Birthday Goals

I can’t believe it some days when my wife and I talk about it but I will be turning 50 next summer. Both of us will be turning 50 within the next several months with my wife doing so this month. We are looking at it as a time to celebrate what we have accomplished in life and to do something special to mark the milestone. I have based some of these special events around fitness activities. Doing so it also gives this blog a road map of sorts on what you will be reading about and following for the next year or so.
I wanted to take a moment and share these future goals with you. As you can see I have tried to make them somewhat around a “50th birthday” theme. The goals I would like to do in the 18 months include:
  • The primary goal is to lose weight and to become healthier. This is by far the main goal that I want to achieve for multiple reasons. My long term goal in this regard is to lose at least 50 pounds if not more over the next 18months.
  • The second is to continue to spend more quality time with my family. I love them so much that every moment is special. In today’s world you never know just how much time you may have with someone. I don’t want to not waste any time with them.
  • The third is again to truly learn to run. That may sound silly to most of you but it is a concern to me. I would like to really run some of my planned races and get where I can running wise. So I plan to start at ground zero yet again and try one last time to get into the rhythm and learn to run.
  • Lastly I want to ensure that my general health and fitness comes first with these goals. By doing so the workouts drive any event that I do rather than the other way around. In the past I have allowed races to drive my approach to races and I have ended up simply surviving them. So this time no more survival races for me. If I am not ready for them I will not run or cycle in them. The following goals would be between now and the next 18months. That being October of 2012 to November 2014. This will cover the lead up to my 50th year and shortly past the year.
