The Reason for The Pink!

Posted Oct 03 2012 8:59am

Such a cute little penguin! There is NOTHING cute about Breast Cancer though. I turned my blog pink in honor of my good friend Laurie who knows first hand about this disease. Instead of me telling Laurie's story, I have posted from her personal page that she created for her upcoming Walk for Breast Cancer.......

.
Hi everyone!
As most of you know, on Feb. 12th 2010, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. During my treatment and recovery, I came to realize that I am blessed with an amazing circle of family and friends. I am also fortunate to live in a city with great doctors and nurses and a good health care plan.
On October 20th and 21st, I will proudly walk in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in New York City as a 2 1/2 year survivor. I walk for those who are not as fortunate, for those who can't afford proper medical care, for those who are seeking a cure for this disease. But most of all, I am walking for my 3 beautiful daughters, my amazing 3 sisters, and all of my in-laws, aunts, nieces, cousins, girlfriends..........well you name it!!!!!
I will walk a marathon and a half (nearly 40 miles) with my two eldest daughters, Lauren and LIsa. Nikki would of joined us but you have to be 16. (She'll be with us in spirit). I plan to raise $2000.00 but hopefully more. To do this, I will be spending months training and fundraising.
I am honored to help others get the same chance at survival that I had. And I'm looking forward to a special Avon Walk weekend of celebrating my own survivorship among a community of people who are just as passionate about this cause as I am.
Please help me and by all those who are impacted with breast cancer-by making a tax deductable donation. Just visit my fundraising page or make a check out to "Avon Walk for Breast Cancer" and send it to Laurie Forcellina, 309 Candlewyck Dr. Newington, CT 06111,
As I cross the finish line on Oct 21st as a survivor, I will carry with me the hopes of each and every person who has helped me to thrive since that life-changing day when i first heard that diagnosis. And that includes you!!!!!!!!!
On behalf of the tens of thousands of people who may be saved by your actions, Thank You.
Peace and Good Health
Laurie

What Laurie doesn't mention on her page is how strong she was through this whole horrible ordeal. I think back to the day that she told me about her diagnosis.....she was worried about ME! She didn't want ME to be upset.........REALLY? She just learned that she has one hell of a fight on her hands and she is worried about everyone around her! Of course, she was determined that she would do everything she had to do to insure that she would be around for a long time for her family and friends....especially her beautiful daughters. She KNEW she was going to have a tough go of it, but she KNEW she was gonna KICK CANCER'S BUTT!!

When I think about it, I know that I whine and complain more about my knee hurting from the arthritis and other such insignificant things than Laurie did about going through the numerous surgeries and treatments, the loss of her beautiful hair, the pain and the fear that she went through. Laurie is my HERO! She is one strong lady and she and her wonderful husband, Peter; are such great parents and they have raised 3 beautiful, sweet, loving, strong girls!

Please go to the Team Force page and you can click on the 3 individual pages. ANY donation would be appreciated!!
