The Carnival of Running #71

Posted May 12 2010 6:00am

Welcome to the 71st edition of The Carnival of Running!

These Internet ads are getting pretty weird .

Another reason why California is not like where you live . Unless you live in Vancouver .

It’s a changing of the guard in Washington, DC. No, not the midterm elections, but the ACLI Capital Challenge, which annually pits Congressional representatives against the media and other federal government types. Perennial champion Rep. Bart Gordon was sidelined with tendonitis, and he’s not running for reelection, so Sen. John Thune became the fastest Congressman in the three-mile race with a time of 19:19.

In the electronic media team results, the iPlods came in dead last, so I’ll forgive them for stealing my name .

Sen. Thune would have been trounced by Meg Darmofal, who won the Mason State Bank 5k with a personal best of 18:33. Meg is 13 years old .

The Washington Post reports that track and field is growing popular, with TV ratings that “routinely beat the WNBA, NHL and Major League Soccer.” Does that mean we’ll soon be rid of Al Trautwig and Larry Rawson ?

Let’s put some feet stories at the foot of the page. Nothing says Mother’s Day like grown men strapping on high heels for a “drag” race . Ben Hedblom split the difference in the barefoot vs. shoes controversy by wearing his running shoes until he was just about barefoot . Kelly Johnson of Run Oregon reports that corns on your feet is not necessarily a bad thing. And after all that foot pounding, what’s better than a runner’s pedicure ?

This week’s linky love goes out to My Running Shorts , Let’s Go Running! and Miles Is Smiles . Check out all three!

That’s all for this week, friends. Happy 85th birthday, Yogi Berra , who once said, “You can observe a lot by watching.” Submit your posts to Until next time, run away!
