Let me tell you, I have run the gamut of breast sizes and running distances in my short 4.5 year running career. I ran my first year of races after having my oldest son at a size DD. No, I take that back. I was anywhere from a B to a DD, depending on if the little rug rat had recently nursed or not. And for those of you who haven't experienced it, timing out nursing and/or pumping around a race is way more complicated than planning race day nutrition, hydration, or porta potty stops (as my friend Hope is learning!).
But I digress. Back in those days, I didn't know that GOOD sports bras existed. I DID know that the "sports bra" I bought from the maternity store in the mall was the most pathetic excuse for a "support" that I had ever seen. But besides that, I thought the only thing a running nursing mama could do was double (sometimes, triple, if you count the built in shelf bra on some tanks) up on sports bras. Apparently, nursing or not, I wasn't alone. “We believe that sports bras are an essential piece of equipment for active women, yet 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong size,” said Julie Baxter, vice president of Moving Comfort. Yeah, that would be me. It wasn't until my second baby that I had heard of Moving Comfort sports bras. Women of ALL bra sizes were raving about them, as they offer size 32A all the way to 40E, in a full range of styles and support levels. Unfortunately (fortunately?) for me, nursing baby #2 did not have nearly the same effect, and my sad little size small B's could get away with your generic Target or Walmart special (*sigh*).
Needless to say, when I was contacted by Moving Comfort to review their NEW fitting room feature , and the sports bra it suggested for me, I was SUPER excited. Like I said, I've heard nothing but good things about their bras. So I jumped in to the online "fitting room" (don't worry, no fluorescent lights and gigantic mirrors here!) to see what it had in store for me.
Here is what Moving Comfort says about their fitting room
The Sports Bra Fitting Room—the first of its kind—is a multi-media, user-friendly, online fitting experience. The Sports Bra Fitting Room is divided into four sections to guide women in finding the best fitting sports bra. Sections include:Here's what I say:
The Virtual Fitting room was super easy to use.
-Step one: grab a tape measure.
-Step two: measure where they tell you to. Use the videos provided if you need extra help figuring it out.
-Step three: enter your measurements in the boxes provided. Press enter and voila: you have a bra size. My only complaint here: my size was MUCH MUCH smaller than I had originally thought, hahaha! But I guess I have to blame my children for that, not Moving Comfort.
Next, you tell the web page what sort of activity you will be doing, low, medium, or high impact, what style you would like (under wire? racer back? seamless?) and BAM. There is your sports bra recommendation.
The Moving Comfort Virtual Fitting room suggested the Alexis Bra for me. I chose the Alexis Print, because the flashier the better, I always say (just look at my collection of neon sneakers). I'll admit, I didn't read the FULL detail description. Being a *coughcough* A cup means you don't have to be particularly choosy. So I was surprised to discover that the alexis bra is slightly padded! Yeah, yeah, I know for some of you, the LAST thing you want is added girth. But for those of us that look like little boys when wearing a sports bra, we welcome the enhancement!!!
I put the bra to the test today. First, aerobics class, complete with rounds of mountain climbers and lots of jumping. Next, under a polo for a client consultation (yeah, I was sweaty, shhhh). Last, a 3 mile run in 80+ degrees/80+% humidity.
Result? No bouncing. No chafing. No discomfort whatsoever. No dripping wet with sweat. What I was most impressed with is the feel and material of the bra. The DriLayer® Power 88% polyester / 12% spandex fabric feels more supportive, and less likely to stretch out over time like traditional sports bras.
I'll admit, I haven't purchased a sports bra over $10 before, ever. But noticing how frequently I have to throw out the cheapos, and the DISTINCT difference between those and a Moving Comfort bra, I am officially converted. Moving Comfort sports bras are WORTH the investment. And so are "girls", what little is left of them anyway, ha!
Moving Comfort has graciously offered to let one of my lucky readers win whatever bra they chose from the Moving Comfort virtual Sports Bra Fitting Room!
