Besides eating good food and seeing friends, I'm also finally able to pick up reading for pleasure again. Thank goodness! I was going through major withdrawals. The first book I read was The Fault in our Stars . I read it all in one day and BAWLED my eyes out, but it was amazing: the best way to read is with a little pup on your lap :)
I just bought: Ender's Game because I've heard good things and it was 1.99 on kindle yesterday. I also borrowed: Kitchen House and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time from my parents (both of which they highly recommended). So excited for good books to read. Any suggestions from you guys?
Yesterday I also tried a new-to-me yogurt (well actually yoghurt, according to them): this stuff is AMAZING. But, definitely a "treat" yogurt. I only ate about 1/4 of it because it's kind of high in sugar/fat for yogurt, but it's so creamy and delicious. Of course I got blueberry because I want alllllll the blueberry things right now.
And guess what I've been doing? Winning a relay with my friend Karly, Alexis , and Detroit Runner . No Big Deal. (Fine, if you want to get technical, we got sixth overall, but won our division). Anyway, I won a free entry to the Rockin Marathon relay on Belle Isle through Renewal by Andersen . We had another member, but he hurt himself and had to find a replacement. I met Karly at a race last year and we found out we live RIGHT by each other, so I asked her if she would be interested. She said yes and I was just a little excited to be running with a team of friends.
Going into this race I had no idea what to expect. My running has been erratic recently and that last race didn't leave me feeling super confident. Luckily yesterday was overcast and there was a breeze which helped somewhat with the awful humidity.
The race was a full marathon (26.2 miles) and we could split it however we wanted between the four of us. Detroit Runner (Jeff) went first and did 3 laps (each one is 1.55 miles), Alexis went next and did 2 laps, Karly did 2, then I was last and did 2. We repeated the order and everyone did 2 more laps the second time around.
Alexis, me, Karly all rocking our renewal shirts and sparkly skirts. (mine is by LilyBomb Athletic Wear and I'll be giving a full review and hosting a giveaway later in the week!)
The first 2 laps went well for me and I did them roughly high 7's/low 8's. I felt really good besides being hot as heck. After my two laps, I had a little snack while waiting for my next turn: so random, but it was in the race spread they were offering and if m&m's are present, I'm going to eat some. I only had a few though so that it wouldn't mess with my stomach.
By the time my second time around came, it was 11am-ish and it was sooo humid. I had adjusted my sleeves to try to help with the heat and carried my water bottle with me. My first lap wasn't too bad in 8:30ish, but the last one was really rough and I did it in 9:05. I was very glad to just be done:
