Starting July 1, it will be illegal to hold your cell phone up to your ear and talk while driving in California.
A funny post over at Laist about taking pictures while driving got me thinking about things that are legal to do while driving.
Not Legal (as of July 1):
Talking on your cell phone (without a hands free set).
Legal to do while driving:
Talking on your cell phone with a bluetooth headset
Dialing your phone
Texting your friends
Taking pictures with your phone or camera
Putting on Makeup
Eating a Pizza
Browsing websites on your web capable phone
Shaving
Reading a book or newspaper
Loading CDs into your Disc Changer
Reading a map or your GPS
Any combination of the above list
If you do anything on the second list you are okay (unless you cause an accident). Talk on your cell phone and your first offense will be $20, then $50. So be distracted all your want, just don't hold anything up to your ear!
