sometimes you have to be in competition with yourself...and sometimes you eat your body weight in one meal..

Posted Jun 06 2011 12:00am
I can't move.  I need sleep.  Now.  Seriously, I ate so much food for dinner that it's uncomfortable.  Blahh.  It was well worth it though.  I'll get to that in a minute.  Let's talk earlier in the day, ya know before I ate my body weight in one meal...

As I said last week, I have my eye on a prize: running a 6-something mile.  One singular mile.  It's a healthy little competition I have...with myself.  I have a one track mind.  I get something in my head and there's no stopping it.  It's a gift and a curse because when I put my mind to something, I get it done.  However, it also means it consumes me until I get it done.  Anyone else like that?  Oh hey, I think that's that Type A personality shining through again ;)

Anyway, after work, I set off to do ONE mile giving it my best.  I opted to try the Minimus SANS socks today.  Guess what?  Biiiiig difference.  Those babies felt much, much better.  I will be wearing them without socks tomorrow to see how it goes for a longer run.  I started off at a 6:48 pace that I held steady for the first 1/2 of the mile.  Then, I kind of lost pace for about .20 of a mile and was at more of a 7:30.  I kicked it back up a bit and was sure I was going to get it in 6:59.  Alas, I did not.  I was soooo stinkin close.  I got it in 7:07 (though my garms always has a slight delay and recorded it at 7:08 when it popped up but it actually turned at 7:07.  Either way, I was within a few seconds.  Boo. However, it's already 13 seconds faster than the other day.  woooo!
blurry, but you can still tell...

I ended up jogging another .35 miles back home and in total I did it in 10:00.  Since I kept the run short, I tried to make up for it by doing 3 sets of 15 crunches, followed by 20 second planks, then 15 mountain climbers.  I also did this for 3 sets.  I stole Ryan's soccer ball and used it as my ball for wall squats.  I did 3 sets of 10 for this.  I also did solo sets of 10 of: hip abductions, straight leg raises, calf stretch, and quad stretch.  It made for a nice quick but good little workout.  Then I showed the foam roller some lovin!

I had to hop a quick shower, as we were meeting the parents and RunnerBro and fam for dinner to celebrate my mom's birthday.  I'm obsessed with the restaurant we went to and ate toooooo much.  Starting with this
thai glazed salmon, wild rice, and red skin mashed potatoes
It was so good and I ate almost all of it (which never happens).  When we were finished eating, the waitress came to ask if we wanted dessert.  She mentioned that they had deep fried oreos.  RunnerBro and I caught each other's eye - we NEEDED those asap.  We also ordered a Belgain waffle ice cream sundae.  We split both between the entire table.  I have no idea how anyone could eat either by themselves...well, I do, but it's soo bad and so, so good.

the oreos in all their glory
quite possibly the BEST picture ever of RunnerBro.
umm could runnerbaby be any cuter?

Ryan refused to lean in closer to RunerBro (I promise he likes him).  He is so picky about pictures lol
Me with WalkerDad and RacePhotographerMom (I just made up that name for her...I'm so clever, I know).
Now, a food coma has set in, but it's oh so worth it.  I need to run so many miles tomorrow.  RunnerBro had to show me up and say they went for a 3 mile walk after dinner.  Well, to that I say, "I took a nice little walk to the couch".  And ya know what?  I'm okay with that.

In other news, I signed up for a race for this upcoming weekend!  Surprise, Surprise.  My friend Erika and I are doing the 10k and my dad is going to do the 5k.  It'll be in the park that I ran in the other day (the one with the bridge and the geese).  I did the 5k for this race several years ago (before I took running seriously), so I'm excited to do it again.  I'll be out late the night before because we're going to a Tiger's baseball game, but it should still be fun, so we'll see what happens.  I'm excited to run another race with this lady though It says that it might rain friday and saturday, which could potentially flood the park (this park floods sooo easily).  Let's cross our fingers it doesn't!  Otherwise, it says it should be 74 degrees, that would be quite ideal.  Don't forget that my running buddy for that race is going to do a guest blog post and you can ask any qs about half ironman training, race experience, or any races in general.  Email me at watchmegorun@gmail.com so I can pass it on to her.

Here are a few questions for you
-Do you find yourself to be more competitive with your self or someone who has a similar pace?

-Are you a fan of fish?  If so, what kind?

-Have you ever had a deep fried oreo?  If not, would you eat one?

-Anyone have a phenomenal run today?  If so, tell me about it!
