If you’re running one of the many 5K road races or other events this season, standard practice dictates a short warm-up and a few striders and/or bounding exercises before the gun goes off. But if it’s a hot day, you’re better off skipping the warm-up in favor of staying in the shade to stay cool. The warm temps will warm up your muscles enough, and you’ll need to conserve as much energy and fluids as possible to you’ve got enough gusto for that final sprint to the finish.
