Today, I bought a new pair of running shoes. This isn’t too abnormal as I frequently buy running shoes. However, the marathon is a mere 4 days away and it is a bit unusual to buy new shoes so close to the race. But my last pair was really worn down. I think I had something like 700 miles on them!
We’ll see if that’s a good or bad idea. I’m going to go out and give them their first run today. It’ll be a glycogen depletion, slowish 7+ miler. We’ll see how my feet hold up.
Incidentally, one of the things that I did do was to buy the same brand of shoes (Brooks). That way my feet won’t have to get completely used to a new shape of shoe even if it’s subtle.
When do you think it is too close to a marathon to change shoes?
