Well, you should. There is plenty of evidence that regular exercising is one of the most healthy things you can do.
According to this report , regular exercise like joggling or running can reduce about two dozen physical and mental health conditions. It can also slow down aging and even reduce the chances of getting cancer. More evidence and encouragement for me to continue my joggling streak.
The researchers reviewed of over 40 papers published between 2006 and 2010 and concluded a number of benefits. Here are some of the more interesting ones.
1. Regular moderate to intense physical activity is associated with decreased coronary heart disease risk and stroke risk.
2. Regular exercise can reduce risk of certain types of cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, depression, obesity and high blood pressure.
3. Riding a bike or walking for half an hour a day is associated with a cancer reduction of 16%
4. Physical activity reduces the risk of dementia.
The researchers recommend you should aim for 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week. This is a simple 30 minute walk a day, 5 days a week.
This year I’m averaging over 230 minutes a week so I’m probably getting all the health benefit I can from exercising. Now if I could only work on improving my diet.
