Running through the tough times

Posted by robr2001

There are always days when one should run but let's face it, it is much easier to hit snooze, roll over, and enjoy another 45 minutes of sleep. How do you gain the motivation to get out of bed, and face the cold weather, rain, etc of an ugly day. This is what I do: - Use the run to think about "that issue" that you can never seem to get to during the hectic times of the day...whether it is something at work (outside of day to day responsibilities), a family matter, etc. Use the run as a motivator to say "I can deal with it" (It also takes your mind off the bad weather during the run!); - Think about how great it feels at the end of the run. You walk in the door with the comfortable tired feeling, sweat dripping off your face ready for a tall water to replenish your resources; - Know that if you run, you will not feel guilty for having that small dessert at lunch or other food treat during the day; - Consider the great health benefits of the run...more energy during the day, exercising your heart, reducing your cholesterol...etc Consider that if you are just starting out to "run as a lifestyle", you will likely face more of these days early in your journey than later. The more times you fight the temptation to "roll over.." and go for the run, the easier it will be later on to do the same thing when "rollover" temptation hits.
