Running and a Gardening Injury

Posted May 16 2010 12:00am
Here on Long Island, we've had several seasons this week. The weekdays had a mix of fall breezes and spring showers, but this weekend been filled with summer sunshine. I opted to skip my short weekend run for a trip to Lowes to get flowers for the garden. I spent about 3 hours yesterday in a variety of flattering positions to get some color around our house.

Here is Beans, "helping" me.

After I finally stood up, I could tell that I was going to have some hamstring pain. Seriously, a gardening injury?

I woke up this morning and felt serious tightness in my hamstrings and glutes. I hoped I would loosen up as I ran, but after a mile I was wishing I chose a different route! I stopped to stretch after the first mile, but it didn't feel much better. I planned to run 5 miles, but called it at 4.5.

Mile 1: 9:33
Mile 2: 9:28
Mile 3: 10:12
Mile 4: 10:10
last .5: 4:44
Total: 43:59

And I just realized that this run is probably the last run of my twenties! I'm turning 30 on Tuesday!
