What did we want to accomplish with this group? We wanted to help train women to get off the couch through a couch to 5K program. We wanted to give them a Christian environment where they would feel comfortable exercising and find friends to encourage one another in their fitness goals. We would do this by doing a group run once a week with them and having them do two other runs on their own but hopefully with a friend throughout the week. After a lot of praying and hard work, we started our first training group in April of 2010. We had 49 ladies show up that day!!! Since then we have trained tons of women for 5K's and 10K's. And we have grown to form groups in five different states! It has been an amazing journey to be a part of! I strongly believe God is working through us with this group. I'm a little biased but I don't think you will ever meet a group of ladies who are so friendly and welcoming!
Why am I telling you all of this? Well because I am super excited about a new opportunity with this group! Paige and I are leading the very first Sole2Soul Sisters half marathon training group!!! I am so excited! We are training them for a race that is brand new in our area, It's About The Shirt . It's gonna be a blast! I would have been training for this race anyway so it's going to be great to help these women run their first half marathon!!!
I have one of the fun responsibilites...I get to make the training routes for all the long runs! I LOVE doing that!!! So tomorrow is the first long run of 6 miles. I'm so pumped!!! I will be keeping you up to date on my training as well as theirs for this race!
Edit: I can't believe I forgot to mention this (because it's so much work I can't believe I forgot lol) but Robbie reminded me in the comments about it. Sole2Soul Sisters puts on our own 5K race in February every year called the Sole2Soul Scoot. This year (2012) was our second year doing it and it has been a great success!
