Another long run has come and gone – I conquered my second 20 miles over the weekend. We headed up to the hills AGAIN (and for the last time this training period), looking for another challenging training run. Challenging is definitely what we got!
Meghann , Stephanie , Anthony, Marcus and I all rode up together, and made it a group effort. We all had different distances to do – 17, 20, and 22 miles respectively. We all killed our distances – or did the distance killed us… debatable!
I ran my 20 miles 8.5 minutes faster than the last time I was there. It was definitely one of those reassuring runs for me. The last time I did that same distance in the hills was the week following the Michelob Ultra Challenge , and I was a bit hard on myself, not thinking the challenge would affect me as much as it did. Boy was I wrong. I redeemed myself this weekend
Now that I have 20 miles in the books, twice, I am feeling incredibly on top of my game! At this point, I really do not feel like I am going to get any more fit. My workouts are starting to get shorter (last week was my longest tempo), and I only have one long run left – my first time doing 22 miles. I am definitely starting the marathon countdown! Only 32 more days until race day!! Can 26.2 get here already!?
Can't wait to get this gem!
I’m always nervous the last few weeks before race day – I feel like I have a bigger chance of getting injured for some reason (probably because it has happened in the past ). Even though I am fitter than ever, this is when my body starts to break down. For me, this just means more stretching, foam rolling, and “the stick” using. 5 weeks to go!
Lets do this!!
What is your longest run in marathon training? Do you do 20 or 22 miles? Who else is on the downward slope of training?
