Not having run much in the last week, here's a shot at the start of the recent Mt. Disappointment 50m/50k, courtesy of Pam Everett. From left, Michael Voris, me, Kirk, Robert and Charlie. All of us belong to the SoCal TrailHeadz and have quite a bit of running history together. Ah, the stories we could tell...
I ran a great 16-miler in Black Star Canyon on Sunday (following a fab 15-miler in Whiting Ranch the day before) when good friend and running mate Pam Everett asked me, "So, what's next for you?" I thought for a second and realized that I had no idea.
But that's OK.
Taking a cue from Karno's latest book, I'm in a mode of exploratory fun runs -- just taking off with a rough plan, an ATM card and some supplies. Will make a day of it soon. I may run the Noble Canyon 50k in late September. The debut race last year was grand. I highly recommend it.
Keira, in civilian garb
Up next is pacing dear pal Keira at the AC100. I was supposed to pace Coach Charlie at his planned first 100-miler, Rio del Lago, but he has revamped his racing plans so that won't happen -- freeing me up to run Noble Canyon.
I camped with my kids in Two Harbors, Catalina Island last week and took six whole days off from running. We kayaked. Great cross-training! It's always good to take off, now and then, from a routine running schedule to recharge and give your body a break.
Now I'm feeling grand and ready to pound the trails! It's a good life.
