pulled intercostal

Posted by FSrunner

I am a 58 yr old male... I believe I've pulled an intercostal muscle, I ran a 5k 2 weeks ago and have a tightness on the right side of my chest... leading to a shortness of breath... what can I do to recover?

I don't know anything about the inteercostal muscle, so here are some general comments. Take a few days of rest and easy walking, then see how your running goes. Hopefully, before you ran the 5K, you were doing training runs of 5 miles or so. I'm guessing that you may have gone too fast during the 5K for your current body-condition. If rest and shorter and slower runs don't cure the problem, I'd suggest you see a doctor.
