Pressure sensitive swollen spot with a spongy texture at base of tibia in ankle joint?

Our son has an obvious lump that has a spongy texture at the base of his tibia in the ankle joint. Walking and running is not a problem however if he laces up his skates for hockey the pressure is inhibiting him from being able to play.

What is the spongy texture we can feel on the swollen spot?

Good question. I'm sorry, but I don't know. A visit to a doctor would probably be wise.

Thanks .... we did get to the good doc and he is now in physio for 3 to 4 weeks. He managed to tear the inferior Extensor Retinaculum. He will be back running and playing hockey in no time.
