Playlist Thursday: Race Day Playlist

Posted Nov 01 2012 1:28am

Race season is in full swing! With MCM last weekend, NYC Marathon and Two Cities (as well as several others!!) this weekend and Rock n Roll San Antonio NEXT weekend… It’s time to get down to business! Runners all over the globe are recovering or preparing for the gun to go off. Thus, this weeks Playlist Thursday is all about songs that are a must have on your race day playlist!

New to Playlist Thursday? Here’s the dealio… Every week Mr. Pavey over at Pavement Runner comes up with a theme for the week. Then on Thursdays we pick three of our favorite songs that fit the theme. Something Old (5+ years old) Something Current (within the last year or so) Something to Consider (Anything you want. Think of this one as a wild card)

Artist: Florence + The Machine

Title: Dog Days are Over

Side Note: I can’t think of a song that has better lyrics for running. The chorus, in particular.

Quotable: Run fast for your mother. Run fast for your father. Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers. Leave all your love and your longing behind. Can’t carry it with you if you want to survive.

Artist: Neon Trees

Title: Everybody Talks

Side Note: So, I hate most ‘pop’ music.. Radio music, if you will.. But I heard this song when I was down here looking at apartments in September and was instantly hooked. I went home and downloaded it because I KNEW it had the perfect rhythm for a run. Now I find it constantly stuck in my head.. Annoying? Slightly… haha.

Quotable: I could hear the chitchat. Take me to your love shack. Mamas always gotta backtrack when everybody talks back

Artist: The Prodigy

Title: Omen

Side Note: Kick Ass anyone? ehh ehhhhh? The first time I ever heard this song was during that movie. Then one day I was riding along in Zack’s car and this song came on his MP3 player . I was alll WHAAAAAAAAAA. You know this song?! *swoon* I love it! Especially during a race.

Quotable: Now the writing’s on a wall, It won’t go away. It’s an omen you just run out of automation

What songs are must haves for you on race day? Don’t race? Okay.. What songs fuel your cardio workouts? :)
