Yesterday we did something old.
Today I tried something new.
Tomorrow I will do nothing. Maybe.
This week Chris and I had a fairly similar work schedule – we both worked what one might call the 2nd shift. This meant we went to be around 1am. And slept in until 9am. Nice life. Except for the part where around 8am Colorado starts getting toasty and makes one which they headed outside hours earlier…
With lots of begging, pleading and just generally being my super-fun-to-be-around self I managed to get Chris to bike along with me on a short run Tuesday morning. We’ve done this before. Its never as much fun as it sounds but I still want company and occasionally I prevail!
his bike + her trail shoes = lots of fun, sort of
We made it exactly 2 miles before I was tired of running “fast” just to give Chris a reason to pedal and Chris was sick of fake pedaling just to fend off the boredom. At least I was nice enough to stick to the single track whenever possible – which explains why my 9ish pace required such effort.
Overnight Chris managed to build up an immunity to my guilt trips. Rather than bond over a sweat fest I headed out on my own this {very late} morning. With no real direction in my life as far as workouts go things have been all over the place. Bike here. Run there. Consider swimming…sometime soon. Contemplate lifting…cry of boredom.
I need something new. I am not in the mood to hunt down a race to train for and some days the drive to get to good single track isn’t worth the effort. I’ve done lifting routines and circuits that involve XYZ reps intermingled with ABC runs but I’ve never around with WOD craze that has attacked the interwebs. Today I did just that.
…improvised WOD…super proud me w/ crazy bangs…girly pushup knees…
I spent quite a bit of time reading Jena’s blog { Life is Beachy Keen } and she has been dabbling in WODs put together by Chase Ford Endurance . I’d love to have her running skills but am too lazy to put in the speed work so in my quest to be just as cool as her without running faster I decided to give these a shot.
Sort of. This morning I got an email with the WOD from Chase Endurance and thought about it. Than I sat on the couch and read a few more blogs. Then my Reader was empty. So I read the silly drama that MSN considers to be “top stories”. Finally I changed into running clothes. Than YouTube’d the WOD moves. Going back to bed was also considered. Eventually I manned up and headed outside.
My WOD of sorts started out with a 1-ish mile run around the neighborhood before I headed into the apartment gym for my modified variation of the workout. I was extremely glad to be headed into a gym…Denver is currently enveloped in a haze and my throat and lungs could feel it!
…there should be mountains in the background, not just a haze…
Anywho. Once I got into the gym I counted my way through the WOD. If you can tell in the photo above there were a lot of modifications. I didn’t have access to some of the equipment required then when I did get into the gym I found one of the machine’s cables broken so I had to re-modify! I ended up with something that looked like this…
AMRAP in 20min
10 back squats 10 DB squats @ 15lbs ea
10 diamond pushups
10 chest to bar pull ups 10 lat pull downs 10 DB swings @ 25lb
200m run 1 lap around nearby apt building {mapped out to 0.13mi, or about 200m}
{Find the original, legit WOD at Chase Ford Endurance! }
I managed to get 6 rounds in, minus one run. Honest to goodness, I think my arms might fall off. I did 60 push ups. They were girly, but I don’t care. Sixty is a lot of pushups for my wimpy self. Putting my hair up two hours later was a challenge. I can only imagine how much fun it is going to be to tote around 20lb coffee urns tomorrow…
Speaking of tomorrow it is time for bed. My sassy alarm goes off in 4 hours. The joy of moving up the ladder…crappier hours than the rung below. Blah.
Also, on a random blog stalker note… Janea at Hungry Runner Girl had her baby today ! I don’t know why I’m so excited, I’ve never met this girl and can no longer use the “she is just a state away” excuse to get overly involved in her life, but for some reason I am so proud of her and her new little family! Now I’m even more excited for aunt-hood, which is right around the corner!
