I'm excited about the
Catalina Marathon this Saturday, my first official marathon in 17 months. Off course, during that period, I have gotten into trail running big time, and have not been thinking much about marathons -- just lots of dirty ultras.
I'm trying not to obsess too much (always a challenge for me) about how I will do in Catalina. I know there is no way I can top my marathon PR of 3:23 (which I accomplished at the rain-drenched inaugural OC Marathon), given Catalina's 4,000-ft.+ of elevation gain and all those rolling hills.
But having gotten a couple of ultras under my proverbial belt (including the
Twin Peaks 50-miler), I have some expectations not to suck too badly.
But regardless of my finish time, I'll still be running 26.2 miles -- all but three on dirt. And no matter how you measure that, it's still a fab way to spend a Saturday.
Cheers for now.
