So yesterday was the day of the Greater Manchester Marathon. The one that I was supposed to run with Team Rainbow. The race I had to DNS.
Out of solidarity, however, I decided to treat the weekend just like I would a 'proper' race weekend.
Saturday, G and I headed into the South Downs for a leisurely, hour-long walk. Ya know, to stretch out them legs...
It was nice and hilly and we actually managed to work up a sweat just walking!
I also donned my brightest clothing possible to send out some good-luck-rainbow-vibes to my lovely teammates.
In the evening, as you do, I carb-loaded like the best of them.
After all, I had a marathon coming up the next day!
Luckily, the rarest of things happened Sunday morning. Upon waking, the sun was shining, the sky was blue, not a cloud was in sight. The perfect day for a marathon. So G and I had a proper breakfast of porridge and fruit, donned our kit, and headed out to do our solidarity marathon. On our bikes.
Now, if you're familiar with the South Downs, you'll know how hilly these suckers are. Turns out, all my spinning classes have been paying off. I tackled those hills like it's my job, flew 'em down again (ok, I may have braked my way down those hills. It's actually really scary going THAT fast. Honest!) and of course wore my Team Rainbow shirt with pride.
So there may have been some stoppages, photo-opps and the odd time of getting lost, but eventually we made it. We may not have PR'ed, but the marathon (on the bikes) was in the bag.
Huge congrats to everyone who raced yesterday and the biggest congrats of all to my gorgeous Team Rainbow ladies who took on Manchester in full force. Well done ladies!!!
How was your weekend? Did you race? Cycle? Tell all...
