My fitness hero for this month: Desiree Davila

Look at the fight in her eyes... Awesome

The February 2012 issue of Runner's World had a great piece on Desiree.  I have to admit, I really didn't know that much about her before the recent US Olympic Trials. I had no idea how hard she worked to get where she is, or that she spent much of her running career up until now being the "underdog".

I knew she was awesome... I just had no idea HOW awesome!

My favourite excerpt from the article is here

What I love the most about Desiree is that there were no freebies. Obviously she's a super talented runner.. But she wasn't the "favourite" to win (until now) and she worked HARD to get where she is. I find her story perhaps the most inspiring of all, because the message she sends is not that she was born with "the gift". It's that she wanted it SO badly and refused to quit. And she worked harder and fought harder than anyone else to become the runner she is today. It's a message that anyone can take from her story, that you can become a good runner but there are no shortcuts. If you put in the work you'll see results.

This inspires me to work harder. You can't expect to run that PB if you don't put the work in. How far do you want to go? Well that depends on the work you're willing to put in.

Happy running today!
