Maui Vacation

Posted May 16 2012 10:30am

Last week we went to Maui. It was to celebrate out anniversary (a couple weeks early, due to my growing belly) but most people interpreted it as a “last chance trip before baby”. And I definitely vacationed differently being 6 months pregnant than I normally would have. Everything just felt… harder. And flying was kind of miserable, I had to pee so many times on the flights and it was hard to bend over to reach my bags stuffed under the seat in front of me. I am glad we did the trip a little early! But I did feel like I was able to really relax on this trip, which is not something I have done in years. (Honestly and truly!)

To illustrate my trip, I put together a Storify story. I’ve been wanting to make something in Storify, but hadn’t felt that I had a story that warranted it yet.

A recap of the places we stayed, dined and visited while in Maui – May 2012

There was a gauge on one of the walls that looked like a bug out of the corner of my eye. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; The ceiling fan in the room only had one speed (despite the deceptive control on the wall that indicated 4 speeds) and the front desk confirmed that it only has one speed. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; With no air conditioning and a lazy-spin on the fan, the room got kind of stuffy.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;It was nice to have a kitchen stocked with dishes and appliances so we could go pick up some groceries. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;Part of our deal was we received a $50 gift card to a Foodland grocery store because we booked 5 or more nights. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;Stocking up on snacks and some meal items was handy. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;Plus, we received a pineapple upon checking in, so it was good to have a way to cut it up for eating!&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;The KitchenJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Sleeping are Living AreaJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;BalconyJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Napili Hotels and Condos – Outrigger Napili Shores, Maui, HawaiiRestaurants Cafe O’Lei Napili House specialties: Seared Ahi, Asian Braised Shortribs, Lamb Shank with Root Vegetables, Spanish Seafood an…&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;h2&amp;amp;gt;Dining&amp;amp;lt;/h2&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Bubba Gump Shrimp Company&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;889 Front St&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;Lahaina,&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;HI&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;96761&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.yelp.com/biz/bubba-gump-shrimp-co-lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Yelp&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt; – &amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/37/410289/restaurant/Hawaii/Bubba-Gump-Shrimp-Company-Lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Urbanspoon&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;Chain place, so it’s not quite that special. But it’s still a nice location right on the ocean and the building it built around a tree. I had the Pear &amp;amp;amp;amp; Berry Salad, not especially island specific but it tasted good after a long day of travel. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; The hubby got a shrimp sampler… the cocktail shrimp needed to be shelled (and cleaned out some!) but they were good… of course, the fried varieties were all really good!&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;The Gazebo&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;5315 Lower Honoapiilani Rd&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;Lahaina,&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;HI&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;96761&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.yelp.com/biz/gazebo-restaurant-lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Yelp&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;- &amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/37/410726/restaurant/Hawaii/Gazebo-Lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Urbanspoon&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;This place is known for their macadamia nut pancakes. We went there twice during our stay, since we had to try all 4 of their specialty pancake varieties. :-) I would rank them in this order:&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;1. Macadamia/Pineapple/Banana&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;2. White Chocolate Macadamia&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;3. Macadamia Banana&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;4. Macadamia Nut&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Portions are huge, my hubby and I shared bites off each plate of pancakes, and still didn’t get through all of them. They have a coconut syrup that is wonderful as well.&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Macadamia Nut PancakesJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Macadamia Pineapple Banana PancakesJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Cool Cat Cafe&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;658 Front St&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;Lahaina,&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;HI&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;96761&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.yelp.com/biz/cool-cat-cafe-lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Yelp&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt; – &amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/37/410515/restaurant/Hawaii/Cool-Cat-Cafe-Lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Urbanspoon&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;This place has been voted the best burgers on Maui for several years in a row. My hubby ordered a burger but I got fish tacos. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; Both entrees were good, but nothing special. There was bird poop on my chair when we were seated and I put my hand right in it without seeing it first. EW! Dangers of open-air dining, I guess.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Cool Cat Cafe – Best Burgers on Maui 5 Years in a Row! We went here because we needed some quick, easy food before we headed to Haleakala. My hubby got a burger, Hawaiian style. That meant it had pineapple and teriyaki added. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; It was an extremely messy burger. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;I ordered the Veggie burger, it was a decent veggie burger… just kind of run-of-the-mill though. Basically, this place gave us some fuel! :-) &amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Welcome to Teddy’s Bigger BurgersOur Guiding Principles revolve around one burger, one customer, and one experience. We did a search on Urbanspoon and this place popped up as extremely close. So we stopped in. I was torn between the eggplant parmesan sub and the 2-slice special. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; Finally I decided on the special – 2 slices of cheese pizza (you can add toppings) and a drink for $4.99. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; My husband ordered the Baked Ziti, which was a massive plate of food. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;(So much, that we took it back to the hotel and reheated it for dinner the next night for both of us, and STILL had some leftover.)&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Serpico’s PizzeriaJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Serpico’s PizzeriaJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Sunrise Cafe&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;693A Front St&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;Lahaina, HI 96761&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.yelp.com/biz/sunrise-cafe-lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Yelp&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt; – &amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/37/412135/restaurant/Hawaii/Sunrise-Cafe-Lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Urbanspoon&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;This is a tiny place, kind of hidden back behind an ice cream shop. They only accept cash, but the prices are very reasonable (probably cheapest meal on the island!) and the staff is friendly. This was probably my favorite breakfast out of everything on the island, just because it was so fresh and flavorful – the half papaya with yogurt, granola and fruit. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; My hubby got the pancake special, the board outside said it came with three different types of syrups. They only brought out maple though and we didn’t ask for the others.&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Sunrise CafeJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Sunrise CafeJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;820 Olowalu Village Rd&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;Honoapi’ilani Highway&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;Lahaina,&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;HI&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;96761&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Yelp – Urbanspoon&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;We stopped here for lunch after visiting the Maui Ocean Center. I really wanted some fresh veggies, so I ordered one of the salads. It was really not enough to constitute a whole meal, although it was priced like a meal salad. It also came with a slice of bread on the side. I wish they had offered me a choice of bread or I had just voluntarily asked. They had a few types listed on the menu, but they automatically gave me rye bread, and I hate caraway seeds. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; My hubby got the chicken pot pie. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; But really… we weren’t there purely for the entrees… we wanted pie! &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; They have little tiny mini pies and then small pies. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; We tried the Banana Cream Pie, it was good… I’d call it a solid banana cream. However, the Mac Nut Chocolate Praline pie was truly special. It had a yummy layer of caramel at the bottom of the crust and then the chocolate, macadamia nuts and cream on top. Really a unique and tasty option.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie ShopJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie ShopJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Hana Bay Juice Co.&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;111A Hana Hwy&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;Paia,&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;HI&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;96779&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.yelp.com/biz/hana-bay-juice-co-paia”&amp;amp;gt;Yelp&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt; – &amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/37/410824/restaurant/Hawaii/Paia-Upcountry/Hana-Bay-Juice-Paia”&amp;amp;gt;Urbanspoon&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;I’m going to give this place an A+++ for marketing. We saw several things that said it was the best place to get food before traveling the Hana Highway. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; They offer box lunches with chips, fruit and cookie to go along with a sandwich. (They also serve fresh juices and smoothies, which we didn’t try.) &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;Neither of us were impressed with our sandwiches and they seemed like the rolls were stale.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Ono Gelato&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;115D Hana Hwy&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;Paia,&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;HI&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;96779&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.yelp.com/biz/ono-gelato-company-paia”&amp;amp;gt;Yelp&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt; – &amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/37/452038/restaurant/Hawaii/Paia-Upcountry/Ono-Gelato-Company-Paia”&amp;amp;gt;Urbanspoon&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;They give you samples of any flavor you want. They were all really good (especially the Lilikoi Surfing Goat Dairy one!) but I ended up going with a sorbetto (because it was non-dairy, I can’t eat a whole dairy-ful dessert) and the pineapple sorbetto made from Maui-grown pineapple was wonderful. My hubby got a cone with a gelato called Sandy Beach… which I don’t remember what it contained but it was yummy!&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Ono GelatoJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Ono GelatoJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Maui Tacos&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;5095 Napilihau St&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;Ste 111A&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;Napili-Honokowai, HI 96761&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.yelp.com/biz/maui-tacos-napili-honokowai”&amp;amp;gt;Yelp&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt; – &amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/37/411478/restaurant/Hawaii/Maui-Tacos-Lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Urbanspoon&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;This place was close to our hotel. It was kind of grimy, but it seemed to be frequented by locals (based on the number of people who called out greetings to the cook in the back and the guy who gave us a breakdown on all options at the salsa bar). &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; We both ordered the fish taco combo. The tortillas were good and the sauce was really good. The fish had nice flavor, but was a little too soft, like it had been sitting in a bucket of some kind of liquid in the back. The rice and beans in the combo were just rice and beans, nothing special.&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Pineapple Grill&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;200 Kapalua Dr&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;Kapalua, HI 96761&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.yelp.com/biz/pineapple-grill-kapalua”&amp;amp;gt;Yelp&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt; – &amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/37/411833/restaurant/Hawaii/Pineapple-Grill-Lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Urbanspoon&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;Located on the beautiful Kapalua golf course, this restaurant has cool views overlooking the tennis courts, with the ocean and mountains in the background. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;Service was quick and efficient, if not really personable. (Which was fine with me.) I ordered the Surfing Goat Dairy Veggie scramble. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; It had some different veggies than what the menu described, but that’s due to seasonal freshness… so that’s fine with me. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; It came with a cup of fruit, a fresh baked biscuit and homemade strawberry-guava jam. My husband ordered the french toast, which is dipped in a cinnamon-vanilla cream batter topped with banana and macadamia nuts. I’m not a fan of french toast, but it had really good flavor due to the cinnamon-vanilla cream.&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Pineapple GrillJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Pineapple GrillJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Moose McGillycuddy’s&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;844 Front St&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;Lahaina, HI 96761&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.yelp.com/biz/moose-mcgillycuddys-lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Yelp&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt; – &amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/37/411564/restaurant/Hawaii/Moose-McGillycuddys-Lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Urbanspoon&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;We just stumbled upon this place. I ordered chicken tacos. (I wanted fish tacos at first, but felt like I’d ordered enough fish. But maybe I should have got fish… I like fish more than chicken!) &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; The sauce on the tacos were good, but they were pretty filling and I prefer my tacos on soft corn tortillas over flour tortillas. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; They are served with a TON of corn chips and salsa. My hubby elected to get a burger, since they had a wide variety of burgers. He went fairly tame with a pineapple/teriyaki burger. (They have a peanut butter &amp;amp;amp;amp; banana burger… ew!) &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;819 Front St&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;Lahaina, HI 96761&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.yelp.com/biz/ululanis-hawaiian-shave-ice-lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Yelp&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt; – &amp;amp;lt;a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/37/1448010/restaurant/Hawaii/Ululanis-Hawaiian-Shave-Ice-Lahaina”&amp;amp;gt;Urbanspoon&amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;I’m bummed we went here on our last day, it was my favorite dessert. I probably would have gone there every day! &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;I got the Hawaiian Rainbow flavor mix (strawberry, pineapple and vanilla) and my hubby got the Haleakala flavor mix (coconut, leche and sweetened condensed cream). It really is so much more amazing that an ordinary snow-cone. It’s so finely shaved and the flavors are more intense.&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Ululani’s Shaved IceJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Ululani’s Shaved IceJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;h2&amp;amp;gt;Activities&amp;amp;lt;/h2&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Kapalua Coastal Trail&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;This trail is about 1.7 miles each way, so you can get just over 3 miles round-trip. If you are staying at a resort nearby and walk/run to the trailhead you could easily get a 4-miler. The path covers a lot of varied terrain and is right along the coast so there are always great views.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Kapalua Coastal TrailJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Kapalua Coastal TrailJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Kapalua Coastal TrailJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Lahaina Shops &amp;amp;amp;amp; the Banyan Tree&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Naturally we spent some time in Lahaina, as most of the restaurants and shops near us were in the town. There are a lot of little museums scattered around as well. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;Located in a park near the ocean is a giant Banyan tree. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; The tree takes up an entire block, but it’s just one tree.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Banyan TreeJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Banyan TreeJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Banyan TreeJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Surfing Goat Dairy&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;3651 Omaopio Road&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;Kula, Hawaii 96790&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;This goat dairy offers tours and tastings of several varieties of goat cheese. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;A lot of people say that goat cheese has a “goat-y” taste, but they make each batch fresh and small so it doesn’t have the “goat-y” taste. I’m a fan of goat cheese no matter, so I was excited to stop by here. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; We sampled 5 little bits of their cheeses and also had a slice of Lillikoi goat cheesecake (passion fruit) that was so smooth. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp; We also got to pet the baby goats, which interested me far more than I thought it might! They’re cute!&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Surfing Goat DairyJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Lillikoi Goat CheesecakeJillOW&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Surfing Goat DairyAloha and welcome to Surfing Goat Dairy’s Website. Our Dairy Farm is located on the beautiful slopes of Maui’s Haleakala Crater in lower …&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;b&amp;amp;gt;Haleakala National Park&amp;amp;lt;/b&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;We had heard that viewing sunrise or sunset from the top of Haleakala was a must see. When we realized the drive time associated with getting there for sunrise, we opted for sunset. The roads were narrow and windy and forced you to slow way down at times, we would have been sad to estimate the time wrong and miss it!&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;We got there and had plenty of time to explore the mountain in daylight and see the various craters. &amp;amp;amp;nbsp;Elevation is just over 10,000 feet at the top, so anyone not used to altitude should take caution.
