I am currently training for the Philadelphia Marathon this November. Having successfully completed 3 half marathons thus far, it is time to step it up to the next level. Yesterday I ran 10 miles. On the other side of the world, yesterday, the female marathon world championship took place in Berlin. Kara Goucher, the top American finisher was tenth with a time of 2:27 and change. I hope to run Philly in 3:30 and finish with my Dad so that we can both qualify for Boston. Maybe someday I will be able to race more competitively as apparently female runners don't reach their peak until their 30s. That gives me a few years. I have been avidly reading about competitive running (my current book - The Cutting Edge Runner). I even went out and bought a heart rate monitor to train in the appropriate zone- something my new gym, correction, "fitness resort" has been pushing. Today I'm out for an 8 miler with my Dad.
My feeling is that any day I am too busy to run is a day that I am too busy. --John Bryant
