Love the Run You're With 5k - March Madness Race #1

I ran the first leg of March Madness this past Sunday and while I didn't PR, I tied my PR (20:43).  Considering that I, (a) turned the race into a long run of 13 miles (at a pretty quick effort!) (b) ran (inc pool) 50 miles that week and (c) it was windy and a bit hilly, I can say I am pleased with my finish!

The race was very well organized, in the beginning of the race, there is a very steep hill to climb ( see Liz's race preview ), and being an extremely poor hill runner, I was surprised it didn't mess me up more.  However, it's an out and back course and I was rather looking forward to the downhill portion at the end, I was surprised that it was almost too steep!  I found myself trying to slow down, for fear of tumbling! (I didn't)

All in all, it was a great race , I'm looking forward to the Van Metre 5 miler on Saturday and hope to finally catch a 5 mile PR at that race.  While I believe I'll still run 50 miles this week, this race I've lowered the mileage a little prior to the race (taking the 2 days prior to the race off, which is really how I like to race) and then, again, will turn the race into a long run and a long pool run on Sunday to cap off the mileage.
