I just mailed my check to run my first 100-miler, the San Diego 100, in the Cuyamaca Mountains, on June 7-8.
Lord have mercy.
Here's an elevation profile:
And a pix (pulled from the race Web site):
Burn, baby, burn!
My goal is to finish and not be completely devastated in body, mind and spirit, although I expect some nasty chafing. I will not obsess about time, but of course I want to finish within 24 hours. Several fab buddies from the TrailHeadz will be running, too, including Coach Charlie (his first 100, too), Marisa (her first), Kirk, Keira, Robert, Robbi, etc.
Training? I'm not a high mileage freak; instead, I focus on quality miles. I will work up to an 80-mile week two weeks before the race. I have been averaging 40-45 for nearly two years, and starting last week I jacked it up beyond 50. From here on out I will run in the 50-70 range until my 80-mile week, and then it's race day.
