I am exhausted after about 35 mins running. I ran one marathon (2:57) when I was younger and although not a competitive runner

Ahhhh... to have the strength and freedom of yester year. Here is my favorite article that tells us how to gain the performance and enjoyment of our youth.

Try stopping after 20 minutes and then use the 10% rule to make weekly (or less often) increases in time. You're exhausted because your body isn't ready for that long of a run.
