On Friday, I went to see Mike @ThePhysioRooms . Turns out I have an inflamed patella tendon. This may have already been aggravated by my running but probably made worse by my stumble on the bus.
He massaged it (OUCH!), did some ultrasound treatment and send me home with exercises, an ibuprofen order and the one piece of advice that no runner in marathon-training mode wants to hear: rest until it's better (though no one could tell me how long that might be. I need facts, people, facts and figures and the precise length of injury time!!!). I can do other exercises (yoga, barre, swimming, etc.) provided it doesn't hurt. Running however, for the moment, is out.
My new best friend
I haven't thrown my marathon hopes completely out the window just yet. I still have eight weeks left to train. My longest run so far was 14 miles. Ideally, I'd have to do another 3-4 long runs, ranging between 16-20 miles (or even just 18) to be marathon fit.
I'm not going into this with any time-goal in mind. I just want to get around the course. Whether that means finishing in 4:30 or 5:00 or 5:30, I don't care. For a first (and possibly last) marathon, that would be good enough for me.
For now though, my legs are up, my Vitamin-I gel is sitting at arm's length and it looks like soon enough my yoga mat and I will be BFFs forever.
