Foam roller is your friend

For anyone who's ever had IT band issues, you know what I'm talking about. The IT band connects your knee to your hip, and a lot of people have issues with it when they first start running. A great way to loosen it up is to buy a foam roller and literally roll your leg over it (you put all your weight on it). It hurts at first, but you appreciate it later.

Not only can the foam roller help with IT band issues, but is is also great for releasing muscle tension while improving mobility. These exercises will release tension being held in the musculature, as well as release and align your skeletal system. Once you begin using foam rolling techniques you will wonder how you ever got along without them. Foam rollers usually cost less than the price of a single massage, but the benefits are similar. It's like having your own physical therapist, chiropractor, and masseuse at your fingertips.
