Extra, Extra, Run All About It: The Week In Running: 11/01-11/08

Posted Nov 07 2009 10:02pm
Dear readers, let's take a look back at the week in running:

* As reported on ABC4.com on November 3rd, when Mary Grace Francisco's Nordic Track treadmill arrived at her home this past Wednesday, it represented the culmination of more running than she thought she would ever have to do. But, when she finished the Hess Cancer Foundation half-marathon on August 29th and was given a certificate saying that she had won a free Nordic Track treadmill, it was just the beginning of a long course that ended with Wednesday's delivery.  For weeks and weeks, Francisco kept calling the Hess Foundation and Nordic Track to check on the status of the treadmill's delivery and, as each call went unanswered, her frustration continued to soar to new levels, " “Once they tell you and then you don't get it, it's kind of disappointing ya know?” Finally, after almost two-and-a-half months, Francisco received her treadmill marking the completion of a run that took her through not only 13.1 miles but also through more bureaucratic red-tape than any one race should have.

* As reported in the Burlington Free Press (Burlington, VT) on November 5th, it seems that runners who desire to run in their birthday suits better think twice about running in the state of Vermont. After being arrested in South Burlington on Wednesday for running on a bike path without any pants on, 38-year old Richard Michaud was charged with two felony counts of lewd and lascivious conduct each carrying a penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine of not more than $300, or both. Noting the recent spate of warm weather along the eastern seaboard, Michaud defended his actions claiming that, "he had been "streaking a little," and attributed his near-nakedness to the warm weather and work stress". It wasn't immediately clear whether the police department provided Michaud with a pair of pants so he could continue his run after his bail hearing!
