Exciting Things Are in the Works!

Posted Feb 10 2012 10:17pm
It's awesome having an evening off to relax tonight - it's been a busy (but in a great way!) week! I got an easy-paced run in (I'm still battling a head cold, so I wasn't pushing it too hard) and now it's relaxing time :)

I remember the days when Friday night was the night of the week I most looked forward to - usually some awesome plans with awesome friends, carb-loading in its most FUN form and dancing until wee hours... and paying for it the rest of the weekend. The idea of a Friday night spent on the couch in jogging pants with a movie was just depressing!

Any night that ends with lei's and princess crowns is a good night in my book!
Those nights still happen - just not every weekend! And maybe not to the above extent. But now, after long busy week of work, running, swimming, biking and all my other commitments, I'm usually too tired  to do much.

Head cold aside, it's been a great week. Good things are in the works.

I don't know what this has to do with anything. I just found it while looking
through pictures. It's cool to do yoga on... whatever this thing is. Sooo zen.
1. Stay tuned for my first ever giveaway, within the next week!! This is not a sponsored giveaway, but because I love you guys and blogging is pretty much my favourite thing, I wanted to do something for you!! Check back later in the week for details, I've got a few things to get together for it!

2. I finally did something I've been wanting to do for a while now - I went to see a fitness and nutrition consultant to talk about what I should be eating, when I should be eating, how much, etc. It was like Christmas getting to spend nearly 2 hours talking about sports nutrition and running... I will post more on this later, but it was pretty much awesome!!

For someone who reads as much as I do about running, I can't believe how much I didn't know about tis stuff. I would definitely recommend that all athletes take the time to do this at some point. It was relatively inexpensive and now I know so much more about how to PROPERLY fuel my body for what I put it through on a daily basis.

For anyone in the Cape Breton area, Pete Siepierski at Adrenaline Training Professionals is awesome. I can't recommend him enough. He is very knowledgeable about pretty much all areas of fitness, stretching, building training programs, strength, speed, rehabilitation and nutrition. His rates are really reasonable and he will work with you to develop a plan that works for you.   Check them out on Facebook !

And NO, I'm not paid or compensated in any way to post this, and I paid regular rates for the consultation - I was just really impressed. I'd like to work more with him in the future, especially with respect to my back and shoulder issues.

3. I'm preparing some new content for the blog - I have a vision for where I'd like to take it and lots of ideas.. I can't believe how much I'm LOVING blogging! One of my newest endeavours has been trying to help promote running and fitness for new runners. I'll be posting training plans in the near future (which are also going to be published on the website for the biggest local race - how cool is that?!), info for beginners, more recipes, running product reviews, triathlon information and some new resources - stay tuned!!

I'm SO excited for what's to come!!

4. Race this weekend!! Remember the Valentines Twosome Run I wrote about a few weeks ago ? Well, there's bad news and good news.. The bad is that my boy isn't able to run it with me as he has to work :( But his dad, who is AWESOME and one of the most active and fit people I know, was sweet enough to run it with me so I won't be doing it alone!

Jim, winning his age group in the Pumpkin run from last fall.
Jimbo, we're gonna tear this thing up!
Should be a great time - looking forward to the race and planning on a new PB!!

I hope everyone's having a wonderful Friday! Is anyone else racing this weekend?
