Emotional Eating

Posted Dec 05 2012 7:17am

I’m an emotional eater. There’s no question about it.

This week has been a strangely perfect example of that.

Monday I was in such a good mood. My foot was feeling good. I was looking forward to my CrossFit class, and I was coming off a really fun weekend .

It was a great day and my eating matched that. I ate all the healthy food I packed for breakfast and lunch at the office, and I didn’t crave sweets or junk food once. I was super healthy.

Then take Tuesday . My foot was killing me, and I was so upset that I was having an injury set back. I was sad all day and busy running from meeting to meeting at work. I just felt run down and glum.

Commuting in a massive air cast is kind of a bitch.

I ate all the healthy food I packed for breakfast and lunch, but then I had a bunch of sweet treats laying around the office. A cookie at lunch, chocolate at my 3 p.m. slump and a piece of candy during a meeting.

I’m not beating myself up for my emotional eating. I mean it’s life and it happens. I just thought this week was an intersting case study in how closely my eating habits are tied to my emotions.

What and how I eat perfectly matches how I feel. Consequently when I’m having a great day or I work out and feel awesome, I want to eat healthier food. When I’m having a bad day, I just want to dive head first into a tub of ice cream.

Frozen Greek yogurt is my new jam.

Does anyone else experience strong ties between their emotions and their eating habits? Please share! I find this stuff fascinating!
