There are a few downsides to running the Honolulu Marathon . Even though it is held on December 9, it can still get pretty warm during the race. This is mitigated somewhat by the starting time – 5 a.m. – which means getting up reeeeeally early. Then there is the expense. Not only do you have to fly to and stay in Hawaii, but the race registration is $175 ($280 after November 9).
You can stack a few things on the other side, but the topper has to be the fresh hot malasadas at the finish line. No matter how rough your race might have gone, your aches and despair will magically disappear amid their sweet, warm pillowy goodness.
My only suggestion for improvement: Malasada stations every two miles along the course. Maybe with a giant urn of Kona coffee.
