Corneal Edema & Flat Marathon

Posted Apr 16 2010 12:00am

Something I never much experienced until doing longish runs in the cold here in Portland - blurry vision.  I haven't been to the eye doctor in a while and plan to go soon, but I was pleased to recently learn this is not all that uncommon.  A thread started on the Ultra list and after reading there and doing some research I discovered that endurance running, high altitude and cold can all create this effect.  Very interesting.  I'll run it by my doctor whenever I manage to get in there.  It does seem to only happen when I run more than 5 or 6 miles in temps below 40.

I've also decided on a road marathon!  Yes marathons on the road hurt.  But I found out about the Foot Traffic Flat marathon from my new Twitter friend Amy Courts who wanted to run it and it looks fun.  It's on a scenic island with good support, decent price and perfect time of year (July 4th).  The race is in 12 weeks though so I need to get moving!  Tomorrow after softball practice I'm hoping to get in 7-9 miles of dirt running.  At least I'm not going from 0 to 26.2 miles in 12 weeks :)

Happy Running & Dirty Feet,
Jessica
