Coach’s Corner: The Runner’s Hotdog

Posted Sep 23 2010 6:46am

If you are heading out to stock up for a weekend BBQ, there is a good chance that hotdogs are on the list. Some of us may choose traditional beef versions while others go with turkey, chicken, vegan, soy to meet your specific tastes and quirky desires. There are hotdogs in virtually every variety. They are simple, easy to cook and add a great protein punch to any meal.

The hotdog I am proposing is a little different. This dog works great at the office, on the run, in the car or better yet, right before a marathon or long run. This dog includes your favorite piece of bread (carbs), some peanut butter (protein…again of your choice…soy, sunflower, peanut, almond, cashew, etc.) and a perfectly ripe banana (more carbs, potassium and some fiber) all put together like a hotdog.

This little gem really packs a punch and offers the runner all the necessary fuel sources in a need little package. Simply, slather your bread with peanut butter, lay a banana in the center and roll up.

The runner-dog is a simple way to fuel at home, on the run or in the office. Just wait until someone sees you enjoying your masterpiece and get ready to field some questions!
