Boston Brunchers at the Foundry

You know what my favorite thing about the weekend is…BRUNCH!

Dave and I haven’t been to brunch in forever. We have been trying to spend money more on our dinners if we are going to eat out versus brunch.  But sometimes you just have to go to brunch because breakfast food is the best ever. When my sorority sister Renee-who blogs over at Eat.Live.Blog and founded the Boston Brunchers -emailed me about the Boston Brunchers invading the Foundry on Elm which is right down the street to me, I knew I couldn’t pass this opportunity up!  Free brunch in exchange for a blog post and tip?!  Heck yes!

We had barely been seated and the French Beignets were put in front of us. Hello delicious fancy fried dough with lemon curd and chocolate sauce! I could probably eat the entire plate of these…I’m not even kidding. We also got the “Dutch Baby” which was a sweet popover with brown sugar, roasted apples and blueberries. Did I mention that it had ice cream on top?

To help wash down the food, I sampled the Foundry Bloody Mary. It was pretty spicy! You could really taste the horseradish and it was just to my liking.  I only wish it had something like a slice of bacon hanging out of it.  I still remember when I went to M3 and all of us ladies were in awe when we saw the chocolate covered bacon on top of french toast .

I don’t think Renee planned this, but it was perfect timing for our brunch. The Foundry was debuting their brunch buffet! Oh let’s do introductions (from top-left to bottom): pain perdu pudding, crepes, maple sausage, bacon, eggs benedict, grapefruit and pastries, and MORE pastries!

I sampled the eggs benedict (meh-it was ok), maple sausage (yummy), crepes (delish)…and the pain perdu pudding which had roasted apples and pecan caramel. The pain perdu pudding was pretty much was like heaven in your mouth. I want to eat this for dessert and every day!

For my main dish, I got the Croque Madame-a mustard-sugar roasted ham and Jarlsberg cheese on sourdough, Mornay sauce, sunny side up farm egg and home fries. I really liked this because it was a little twist on a breakfast sandwich! And the homefries were perfect (though my favorite are still from Julians in Providence).

Others at the table got the steak and eggs, Vol-au-Vent (the pastry puff looking thing), breakfast sandwiches, and breakfast flatbreads.  I really want to try some of these other dishes so I am looking forward to making it back again!  I really feel lucky that there are so many good restaurants nearby!

But this morning Dave and I are heading to my official birthday brunch for me at the Painted Burro!!  The Boston Brunchers went there last time and I couldn’t make it.  I heard they have some amazing iced coffee so I am pretty anxious to try it!

We usually go if guests stay the night for special occasions!  Otherwise we try to eat breakfast at home.
