Book Review: The Book of Joe

Posted Oct 17 2012 9:15am

I haven’t done a book review in a long time and I’ve read about 23902 books since my last one.  Whoops-sorry.  Anyway, I want to tell you about the latest book I just finished reading:

I know I’ve blogged about Jonathan Trooper before but I’m hear to try and convince you yet again to pick up one of his books and read it! When I saw The Book of Joe in a used book store for $3.00 I got SO excited I almost walked out the store without paying for it.

Like other J. Trooper books, there is a one central character who is an overall pretty crappy person.  In this particular book, Joe (main guy) struck gold when he wrote a “fiction” book based on the small town he grew up in and the people that reside there.  Joe’s book goes into detail of all the horrible and crazy things that happened during his senior year of high school and completely paints a bad picture of the town and townspeople.  17 years later Joe gets a call saying his father is dying and that he needs to return back to his hometown where everyone hates him for exposing them in his book.

J. Trooper does such a fantastic job developing the characters even to the point where you actually like people that you’re not supposed to.  Though this book (and his others) has an overall gloomy story/theme he has a way of making these depressing stories absolutely hilarious.  I laughed out loud during parts of it but also cried at the end (on my flight home!).

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed it and felt like I got to know the characters but I do fancy the other two J. Trooper books I’ve read more.

I’ll say it again- GO READ ONE OF HIS BOOKS YO!  That’s all the nonsense I have for now!
