Last night, I was given the opportunity to ride in the Festival of Lights Parade (in conjunction with the St. Pete Grand Prix) in Downtown St. Petersburg, as a prize from the 5k that I won last weekend. The parade is a fun, local parade, and it seemed like all of St. Pete came to show support! I can’t believe that I have never been to this event before. I will definitely be back!
I showed up plenty early to the staging area, and was able to chat with some pretty awesome participants. First off, we have the Grand Marshall, Petey…
He was keeping everyone in line and making sure everything was flowing smoothly. He was the calmest guy out there!
And then quite the group of participants representing the King of Beers. I thought this was supposed to be a family parade?!! They had a different agenda.
After all the chitter chatter, we loaded up into our cars, and we were off on the parade route! I rode in a car with the male winner of the race, Hunter. He is only 15 years old, and ran a 17:08 at the race. Amazing! He is definitely going to make an impact next year when he goes to high school! Our car had a nice sign on the side, so all of the parade watchers knew why we were there.
I have the best friends and family that came out for the parade! My dad, Marcus, friend Allison ( she was in our wedding) , and sister-in-law Morgan, all came to cheer me on,
Thanks for the pic Callie!
along with Callie , who came out even though she had a sick baby at home. (Get well soon Patrick!) That’s a true friend right there!
When the car I was in came in to their sight, all I could see was some crazy jumping and screaming! It was the absolute best to have people there supporting me! It made the parade an even more fun experience!
Thanks to the organizers of the parade for letting me ride along, and to my family and friends that came out to watch! It was such a blast, and I am so happy I was able to participate!
What is the coolest prize you have ever received for winning or placing in a race? Do you have a local hometown parade? Have you ever gone to check it out?
