A special day and a SPIbelt giveaway

Posted Sep 07 2012 7:05am 4 Comments

I turn another year older today…. 31, to be exact.  We have a babysitter coming this evening so we can get out for a nice dinner, and I’ll take my father-in-laws advice and not do anything I don’t want to do today.   :) To celebrate, I’m hosting a little giveaway.

My first experience with the SPIbelt was at Austin’s half marathon where a SPIband (for wrists or ankles) as part of our race goodie bag.  The material was magically soft and stretchy.

Did you know SPIbelts are made in Austin? A a relatively new Texan, I felt my first wave of state pride when I heard that, even if I am a few hours away.  Austin won us over, SPIbelts and all.

And I love the story of this company: founder Kim Overton was out for a run in Austin with her keys tucked in her sports bra, and knew there had to be a better way.  She came home that night and sewed the very first spibelt!

So, what is a SPIbelt? It’s a comfortable, stretchy piece of fabric with a zippered pocket for including keys, cell phones, MP3 players or anything else you may squeeze in there.  I took mine for a run earlier this week with my phone inside.

It’s surprisingly comfortable, and doesn’t bounce or move around the way my fuel belt does.  Granted, the basic version doesn’t have room for much, but it’s perfect for carrying a phone or ID on a short run, when you don’t need any additional water or fuel.  The belt allows you to run hands free and I quickly forgot I was wearing it.

If you’re looking for something with more uses, you can find plenty of varations on their website : water resistant and sweat proof material, reflective belts, dual pockets to hold more gear, and race number belts.  You can even buy a pair of race toggles for only $2 to turn your SPIbelt into a bib holder as well (I need to order these!):

It’s a brilliant concept, and their products are all made in the US, (still in Austin).  I also love the company’s stated core values of compassion and honesty toward each other and their customers.

Would you like to try one?

This giveaway will run through Thursday, September 13, 2012 at midnight CST.  The winner will be chosen through random.org and will be announced on Friday, September 14, 2012.  I was not compensated for this review, and all opinions are my own.

I’m heading off to do whatever I want for a whole day… or as much as possible with a 2 year old.  :) Check out Jill’s for more Fitness Friday posts, and have a great weekend!
