A Pleasant Surprise

Posted Nov 07 2009 10:02pm

It feels strange, almost surreal, to see yourself in a magazine, let alone at some 30,000+ feet. But that's exactly what happened to me on a recent red-eye flight to Manchester City for the city's 3rd Annual Marathon. There I was on page 39 of the latest issue of Runner's World magazine.

The photo for the one-page LiveStrong advertisement was taken during a 5K race at the inaugural LiveStrong Challenge, a signature fundraising event for the LiveStrong Foundation, in Seattle this past June. The runner next to me is a co-worker. As you can see, he was quite excited to see the camera man. It in turn put a smile on my face, which is a rare facial expression given the pace we were running (6:22 min/mile)!

It is my personal biased opinion that our projected enthusiasm, matching running pace, color-coordinated attire (unintentional) as well as our physical differences collectively make for a great Kodak moment that embodies the Team LiveStrong's motto: Unity is Power.

OK, my 15 min of fame is up.
