A bit of a scare....

Yesterday morning, I called my husband to see what time he would be home from PT so I could have his breakfast on the table waiting for him (I'm such a good wife, aren't I?). Instead of the conversation I was expecting, this is what I got instead
Michael: So I collapsed during the run this morning.

Me: WHAT? WHY? Are you okay?

Michael: My back just gave out. Col. ______ stopped along with other people and called the medic.

Me: WHAT? Are you okay? Can you walk? Where are you?

Michael: I got some pills. I can walk. Sorta. It hurts. Bad.

Here is a little background story. Michael deployed to Afghanistan back in 2003-2004 for 18 months and during that time period, he hurt his back on duty. He had 3 crushed discs and now has rods in his back. He has a permanent Army profile (meaning he doesn't have to do certain things because he physically can't) but on the profile it says "run at your own speed and distance" meaning he can run as long or as fast as he wants as long as he isn't in pain.

I think all the running he has been doing has finally caught up to him. During the big group run yesterday, he said there was a lot of quick starting and stopping. I guess that's what happens when you are running in formation with 400+ people. And he just hit the ground.

He is moving around a bit better this morning but still had to go to PT. I'm worried about him. The Army has already tried to med-board him out (kick him out of the army but give him a certain amount of $$$$$ to get out) but he fought the process and won. Now I'm worried something similar will happen because people have gotten med-boarded out for injuries that aren't nearly as serious.

He refused x-rays and played it off like he was fine. I told him he was being stupid because a back injury is no laughing matter. He needs to get it checked out. Why are men so darn stubborn?

Anyways, with that being said, I had a pretty good morning workout. I did not feel like running this morning so instead I went to the gym and rocked the elliptical.

At 60 minutes I was at around 6.85miles and then just slowed it way down for a few minutes before calling it quits and walking home.

I've decided to do the Run For Tina 5km tomorrow morning and scratch the half marathon. I still really want to do the half marathon but I can't let my hubby drive his soldier to the airport and be there 4.5 hours before his domestic flight just so I can run a race. It's no biggie. There will be plenty of other races. Speaking of races, I might just be crazy enough to run a 10 mile race a day after we get back from Mexico.

I was hungry hungry when I got home so I went back to eating my favorite breakfast.

 In the mix
  • 6 ounces of Chobani Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 1/3c Bare Naked Vanilla Almond Crunch Granola
  • 1c blueberries
  • sprinkle of cinnamon
  • 375-400 calories total
Morning tea. I'm trying to get into the habit of drinking caffeine free herbal tea in the mornings but I only remember about 3-4x a week.

One week from today, hubby and I will be flying to Mexicooooooooooo!!!! I've already looked ahead and have some excursion ideas planned that our resort has.

  • Hiking
Whatever we decide to do, I know we will have an awesome time. I'm just so so so excited! I think we are heading to Vancouver on Tuesday for a few days before we go and do a few things around that area beforehand.
