2011 Recap

Posted Dec 29 2011 1:53pm

Yesterday I pondered what I’d like 2012 to look like .

Today, I can’t help but look back on this past year. It was a GREAT one. Sure there were challenges but I have loved almost every day of 2011. A lot of workin’ hard, playin’ hard.

In 2011, I…

… tried to capture what it’s like to live in New York City in your early twenties in words.

… made my own pizza . Oh I remember my first pizza pie. It was delicious and I’ve made it many times since then.

… saw the Justin Bieber movie with my Bieber-obsessed friends . It was awesome.

… ran my first race of the year in NYC on a chilly February morning.

… began to appreciate the weekends even more  ( and more ). And resolved to cram as many things as I could into 2.5 days.

… went to Europe for the first time and visited my sister in Barcelona, Spain. Amazing vacation .

… ran two races in my hometown. One , two .

used the juicer that I got for Christmas. A lot.

… ran 4 10Ks. One , two , three , four .

… ran 4 half marathons. One , two , three , four .

… mourned the first year anniversary of my graduation from Holy Cross. No longer a “recent grad”? Tear.

learned some things in the year that had passed since graduation.

… went to my cousin’s wedding and enjoyed spending time with almost all of my family!

… spent a terrific summer Saturday touring the High Line and the Village with my roommate.

… spent the 4th of July and Labor Day weekends in Sunapee, NH with the fam.

volunteered at an NYRR training run , completing my guaranteed entry into NYCM 2012!

… went to three Dave Matthews caravan concerts on Governor’s Island and Randall’s Island .

… fell in love with the reservoir path in Central Park. I miss those endless laps around the reservoir.

met some amazing ladies of the NYC runner/blogger community.

turned 24 at the end of September.

… announced that I was leaving NYC and my job and moving home to Boston.

… did two 20-mile training runs in hot weather.

ran the Chicago Marathon on October 9, 2011 in 4:46:50. Best. Day. Ever.

… ran my fastest race thus far, 6.66 miles at 9:08 pace.

… found myself at a career crossroads .

… planned my races for the spring .

… celebrated Christmas with friends and family .

2011 = good year. Bring it on, 2012!

What were your favorite things about 2011? Any memorable happenings?
