Love Balls and Lingerie?

Posted Jan 17 2013 7:22am
bondage 5o Shades of Grey is the fastest-selling book of all time so it’s only a matter of time before other retailers get in on the action.

There are now shelves of identikit books in my local Waterstones and a dedicated erotica shelf in the library.

EL James has teamed up with sex toy retailer Lovehoney to endorse the official 50SoG Pleasure Collection , which contains 9 pleasure toys and 11 soft bondage pieces. LH is taking it to a top lingerie show in Paris later this month to try and persuade lingerie retailers to marry the two – sex toys and lingerie.

Would you buy love balls with your knickers in M&S? A vibrator and a bra in Debs? Unlikely given the lack of privacy but it may work in Rigby & Peller or Victoria’s Secret. Selling pleasure products alongside women’s fashions was the plan for Mary Portas’ new shop, Mary , in Oxford Street’s House of Fraser. Her collection is aimed at women over 40 who are fed up with skinny fashions and feeling invisible on the high street. Portas said that she will introduce ‘fun stuff’ to the collection in time, ‘even sex toys’ but they’ve yet to appear. I hear the the LELO collection of luxury vibes has been dropped, so perhaps there’s still a little nervousness amongst retailers. It will be interesting to see the outcome of the show given the massive success of the books and a Hollywood film in the pipeline…

The Official Pleasure Collection will be showcased in Paris at the Salon International de la Lingerie on 19-21st January 2013.
